Welcome to the

Melbourne United Basketball Academy (MUBA)

The MUBA is Melbourne United's own junior basketball pathway program designed to develop the skills of athletes aged from under 12 to 20.

About The Academy

The Melbourne United Basketball Academy aims to provide a pathway for athletes to reach their potential, starting from under 12s all the way up to 20. Led by United’s coaching staff, MUBA athletes will learn to play out the concepts that have won Melbourne a pair of championships and helped develop players into elite NBA and NBL talents.

Athletes will learn the fundamentals of basketballing a safe and competitive environment. We will focus on ball handling, passing, layup finishing, shooting tech, individual offence and defence, decision-making. We will also introduce the players to small-sided games where the players will learn the concepts that our NBL team use.

Made up of the Development Program and Performance Program, as well as new Small Group Training Programs, MUBA has the perfect collection of resources and options for anyone looking to take their play to the next level.

MUBA athletes will get the opportunity to showcase the skills they’ve improved on the court during Academy Play Days, where athletes will team up for a day full of competition.

Academy athletes will receive club benefits including game day experiences, discounted tickets and access to inner sanctum events.

MUBA Combine & Play Day

Open to Performance Program athletes, the MUBA Combine will see boys and girls be taken through specific basketball combine testing, similar to that of the NBA Draft combine, before teaming up for a round robin tournament where they’ll be coached by Melbourne United’s Dean Vickerman, Jacob Chance, Rhys Carter and David Barlow. Development Program athletes will also get the opportunity to hit the court together in their own round robin.

MUBA Scholarship Program

For the first time, MUBA athletes will have the opportunity to earn a Melbourne United Academy Scholarship, granting them access to exclusive benefits. Working with United’s NBL coaches and training staff, athletes will go behind the scenes, taking part in individual training sessions, developing through a nutrition and strength and conditioning program.

Other MUBA Events

Further to the regular Talent ID Camp and Development and Performance Programs, MUBA offers additional School Holiday camps.
